Advantages
Shelf Life: The impressive shelf life of 2.5 years without refrigeration is a significant advantage for emergency preparedness. The eggs maintain their quality even after the package is opened for up to six months, providing an extended window for consumption.
Emergency Food Source: OvaEasy Whole Egg Crystals prove to be a reliable emergency food source. The ease of preparation, combined with their long shelf life, makes them a practical choice for sustaining yourself in challenging situations.
Weight and bulk: At just 4.5 ounces, it's a lightweight and practical choice for those who prioritize portability. The size is small enough to fit in my emergency camp kitchen pouch, a 5.11 Flex 9x6 Horizontal Pouch with room to spare for more pantry staples, emergency stove, and more! Personal Experience
- Taste: They do taste good! I've used these to make scrambled eggs or an omelet. Mix with a little water and season to taste, then cook in a camp skillet—just about the fastest hot breakfast you can get camping.
- Versatility: The manufacturer states that these crystallized eggs can also be used as an ingredient in other recipes. While I haven't tried that personally, I have confidence it would work well. In the skillet, they look and feel like scrambled eggs. Check out the manufacturer's list of recipies.
- Ease: Just mix with water and cook! Some would argue that it's easier than cracking an egg...
Naturally, these eggs, when mixed with water, ARE scrambled, so an "over-easy" or "poached" egg isn't an option. Kind of strange that they named the product "ova-easy" when they can't make eggs that are "over-easy"... but you'll get over it.
And I don't want to over-sell: fresh eggs are better tasting and yes I can tell the difference.
Conclusion
OvaEasy Whole Egg Crystals stand out as a valuable addition to the toolkit of outdoor and survival enthusiasts in the Great Plains. The convenience, taste, and extended shelf life make them a reliable choice for preppers who prioritize both nutrition and practicality.
