In the quest for a budget-friendly yet reliable camping tent, I stumbled upon the Mountain Summit Gear Campside 4-Person Dome Tent, boasting 3-season versatility and a promise to accommodate four campers. This review dives into my experience, highlighting both the tent's strengths and areas where a little extra effort can turn it from average to commendable.

Purchased during a tempting 70% off sale at REI, the tent arrived with a weight that was heaver than I expected.   As I started to unpack it, I discovered the tent poles contributed significantly to the overall heft.  Given its intended use for car camping, this wasn't a dealbreaker. The included stakes, while predictable in their flimsiness, hinted at the tent's budget-friendly nature.  I planned right away to replace them.

Standing at 5'9", the 56-inch peak height allowed for partial standing, a minor inconvenience considering the overall value. Taking it down was a breeze, and the tent effortlessly stuffed into its sack, avoiding the usual clumping or extra room consumption.

My initial rating of three stars considers the tent's baseline performance. However, with a few strategic improvements, it quickly transforms into a more reliable shelter. Here are my recommendations:

  4. Footprint Consideration: Look into investing in a footprint for added protection underneath.
