Gear Review: REI Co-op Flash Air 2 Tent Review - Embracing Ultralight Comfort!

As an avid camper who usually prefers spacious tents to accommodate a cot, chair, and table, I was intrigued when offered the opportunity to test the REI Co-op Flash Air 2 Tent—a product geared towards the ultralight camping experience. In exchange for an honest review, I gladly accepted and embarked on this new adventure to share my insights with the camping community.

Right from the start, I was impressed by the thoughtful packaging and the inclusion of high-quality tent stakes, a pleasant surprise compared to the flimsy ones often found in standard tents. My only suggestion for improvement would be to enhance the instruction booklet by utilizing both sides of the page and increasing the font size, especially since the setup process is a bit more intricate than with traditional tents.

When I first unrolled the tent, its packed size turned out to be smaller than my regular two-person tent, which is great for backpacking. Moreover, I discovered that it can be easily "stuffed" back into the bag without the hassle of meticulous rolling—a convenient time-saver. The tent bag's ample room is another plus, making it a reliable companion throughout the tent's lifespan.

The online instructional videos could use some improvement, as they didn't align entirely with the tent's configuration I received. Nevertheless, the tent's sturdy design and two-door setup impressed me positively.

Venturing inside the tent, I appreciated the spaciousness, accommodating my 5'9" height with room to spare for taller individuals. The tent's interior featured well-placed netted gear pockets alongside the head area, allowing for easy access to devices while nestled in your sleeping bag. Truly a thoughtful touch for modern campers!

While I was eager to put the tent to the test in cold weather, the ventilation holes designed for warmer conditions led me to conclude that the tent is better suited for spring, summer, and fall camping. Unfortunately, my location's frigid winter nights prevented me from fully testing its performance under such conditions. Nonetheless, the tent's setup and takedown were straightforward, with the exception of slightly tight poles at the head and feet, which require careful handling.

In terms of price and value, the REI Co-op Flash Air 2 Tent is indeed on the higher end, making it a choice to carefully consider. For campers seeking an ultralight, 1-2 person tent with easy setup and comfort during favorable conditions, this could be an ideal choice. However, if you're more inclined towards larger tents or hammock camping, it might not be the best fit.

To summarize, I'll gladly keep and use the tent, as it performs as expected and provides a comfortable camping experience during warmer months. However, I'm not entirely sure I would personally invest in it, considering my preference for more spacious options. Ultimately, the decision to purchase the REI Co-op Flash Air 2 Tent depends on your specific camping needs and whether ultralight camping aligns with your preferences. For those keen on embracing the ultralight experience, I look forward to warmer days ahead and believe this tent could be an excellent addition to your outdoor gear collection!
